Ahaziah did evil in the sight of the Lord by following the ways of the house of Ahab. After the death of his father, the surviving members of Ahab's house became his counselors. His mother Athaliah also counseled him and influenced him to act wickedly. The counsel of Ahab's house was to his destruction.
Through alliance with Jehoram of Israel, his uncle, he was with him at Jezreel, visiting him there. At that time Jehu was anointed king and charged to destroy the house of Ahab as judgment for the blood of the Lord's servants and prophets shed by Jezebel. Ahaziah was killed at Jezreel during Jehu's execution of judgment on the house of Ahab.
