2 Chronicles 23:1
And in the seventh year Jehoiada strengthened himself, and took the captains of hundreds, Azariah the son of Jeroham, and Ishmael the son of Jehohanan, and Azariah the son of Obed, and Maaseiah the son of Adaiah, and Elishaphat the son of Zichri, into covenant with him.
The chapter records the history of Judah's kings, including the seven-year reign of Athaliah and the reign of Joash. The verse opens the account of the revolt against Athaliah and the accession of Joash, in which Jehoiada the priest entered into covenant with the captains to bring Joash out of hiding, proclaim him king, and restore him to the throne. Athaliah had sought to eliminate Joash, and her rule was corrupt; in the revolt she was put to death, ending her rule and restoring the worship of the true God. Joash, whom Jehoiada the high priest had protected, was made king at seven years old, with Jehoiada serving as his counselor.
Joash did what was right while guided by Jehoiada the faithful priest, showing that his good actions depended on that influence, and he is counted as a good king only while Jehoiada lived and while under his influence. While under that influence the temple was repaired.
