2 Chronicles 23:10
And he set all the people, every man having his weapon in his hand, from the right side of the temple to the left side of the temple, along by the altar and the temple, by the king round about. And he set all the people, every man having his weapon in his hand, from the right side of the temple to the left side of the temple, along by the altar and the temple, by the king round about.
The setting is the overthrow of Athaliah and the crowning of Joash, who had been hidden in the temple for six years until Athaliah was put to death and he was made king at seven years old. At that coronation the sanctuary was guarded by Levites and many of the people, every man with his weapon in hand. They were stationed from the right side of the temple to the left side of the temple, along by the altar and the temple, round about the king.
Jehoiada arranged this armed encirclement to protect the young Joash as he was brought out before the people. The guard stood around the newly proclaimed king while he was crowned, given the testimony, and made king. In this way the armed men secured him during the overthrow of Athaliah and the restoration of rightful rule.
