2 Chronicles 24:19
Yet he sent prophets to them, to bring them again unto the LORD; and they testified against them: but they would not give ear. Yet he sent prophets to them, to bring them again unto the LORD; and they testified against them: but they would not give ear.
Joash began his reign while still young, and he was strong to do right only while guided by the strong, good priest Jehoiada. All human credit for the good done during his reign belongs to Jehoiada and not to Joash. As soon as Jehoiada died, Joash's own heart yielded to evil, and he turned to wickedness after his instructor was gone. Although some of the teachings of his ancestors had taken root in his heart, he went into the way of the house of Ahab.
After Judah turned away, the Lord sent prophets to them to bring them back to him. The prophets testified against the people, calling them to return to the right way. The people refused to listen and would not give ear to the warning. Judah continued this pattern afterward, with repeated messages rejected and transgression increasing until Jerusalem was burned and the people were taken to Babylon.
