2 Chronicles 24:27

Now concerning his sons, and the greatness of the burdens laid upon him, and the repairing of the house of God, behold, they are written in the story of the book of the kings. And Amaziah his son reigned in his stead.

This closing line ends the account of the reign of Joash and brings in Amaziah his son as reigning in his place. It closes his forty-year reign, which stands in the record of the kings in Judah running from the succession of Rehoboam to Solomon through the revolt of the ten tribes and the reigns of Abijah, Asa, Jehoshaphat, Jehoram, Jehoahaz, and the seven-year wicked reign of Athaliah, at the same time as the northern reigns of the Jeroboam I dynasty, the Omri dynasty, and the Jehu dynasty down to Jehoahaz and Jehoash.
Joash was good as long as Jehoiada the priest lived but is counted among the weak rulers, while Jehoiada is counted among the good leaders. Amaziah who followed Joash was disloyal. The chapter belongs to a record showing that doing duty brought blessing, while departing from God brought strife, captivity, and loss. The history to which this closing belongs teaches the awfulness of sin, the judgments that follow it, and God's mercy in pardoning people who return to him.
It is included in the week's reading about the reigns of Joash and other kings. It is appointed as part of the Saturday morning reading on June 5 together with 2 Chronicles 23.
