Moreover Uzziah possessed a host of fighting men who went out to war by bands or divisions in an organized army. Their number was taken by account at the hand of Jeiel the scribe and Maaseiah the ruler or officer, under the hand of Hananiah, one of the king's captains.
This force belongs to the account of his strength, success, and good reign, when God helped him. In that time he accomplished much and did great things for Judah and Jerusalem, and his reputation spread abroad. His reign is counted among the good reigns, though marred by a mistake through presumption.
While he sought the Lord and did duty, God prospered him and gave blessing and help to accomplish much. Doing duty brings blessing.
When he became strong, pride and presumption led him to transgress against God in a religious matter, and brought his destruction. Strength can foster self-confidence and lead a person away from God's guidance. Departing from God brings strife and loss.
