2 Chronicles 26:15
And he made in Jerusalem engines, invented by cunning men, to be on the towers and upon the bulwarks, to shoot arrows and great stones withal. And his name spread far abroad; for he was marvellously helped, till he was strong. And he made in Jerusalem engines, invented by cunning men, to be on the towers and upon the bulwarks, to shoot arrows and great stones withal. And his name spread far abroad; for he was marvellously helped, till he was strong.
The verse marks the high point of Uzziah's long reign over Judah and Benjamin. The prosperity it portrays was greater than that of any ruler since Solomon nearly two centuries earlier. For many years he ruled with discretion and sought the Lord. For that reason God gave him extraordinary aid and marvellously helped him until he became strong.
Under that help his armies regained territory lost in former years, giving him military strength. Cities were rebuilt and fortified. The nation was strengthened in influence among the surrounding peoples. Commerce revived, so that the riches of the nations flowed into Jerusalem. His name spread far abroad and he became widely renowned before he grew powerful.
