2 Chronicles 26:5

And he sought God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the visions of God: and as long as he sought the LORD, God made him to prosper.

Uzziah sought God with discretion for many years during the lifetime of Zechariah, who had understanding in the visions of God. As long as he sought the Lord, God helped him and made him to prosper.

His long reign over Judah and Benjamin brought greater prosperity than any ruler since Solomon nearly two centuries before. That prospering gave his armies success in regaining territory lost in former years, enabled cities to be rebuilt and fortified, greatly strengthened the nation's standing among surrounding peoples, revived commerce, brought the riches of the nations into Jerusalem, and spread his name far abroad until he was strong.

After he became strong he committed presumptuous sin by entering the sanctuary to burn incense, in violation of the plain command that only the descendants of Aaron should officiate as priests. Azariah the high priest and his associates confronted him, pleaded with him to turn from his purpose, and told him he had trespassed and it would not be for his honor. His later strength and presumption show that such prosperity did not excuse him from respecting the responsibilities God had assigned to others.
