2 Chronicles 26:6

And he went forth and warred against the Philistines, and brake down the wall of Gath, and the wall of Jabneh, and the wall of Ashdod, and built cities about Ashdod, and among the Philistines.

The verse records Uzziah's successful war against the Philistines, in which he broke down the wall of Gath and the wall of Jabneh and the wall of Ashdod, and built cities about Ashdod and among the Philistines. He did that which was right as his father Amaziah had done, and he sought God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the visions of God. The victory was part of the prosperity and power God gave him while he sought the Lord, for as long as he sought the Lord God made him to prosper, showing that accepting the reproof and instruction sent by the Lord brings favorable results. God also helped him against other enemies, the Ammonites brought gifts, and his name spread abroad even to Egypt, because he strengthened himself exceedingly and was marvelously helped till he was strong.

When he was strong his heart was lifted up to his destruction, illustrating that self-confidence always draws one away from the Lord and his leadings, and warning that success must not lead to forgetting God. He transgressed by entering the temple to burn incense, and was withstood by Azariah with eighty valiant priests. They told him the office belonged only to the consecrated sons of Aaron. He grew angry with the censer in his hand, and was smitten with leprosy in his forehead before the priests by the incense altar. He was thrust out and hurried out himself, was cut off from the house of the Lord, and remained a leper dwelling apart to the day of his death while his son Jotham ruled over the king's house judging the people.
