Ahaz spread idolatry throughout Judah by making high places in every city to burn incense to other gods, provoking to anger the Lord God of his fathers. Near the end of his reign he also closed the temple, bringing its sacred services, offerings, and incense to an end. With the temple closed, altars to heathen gods were erected in the streets of Jerusalem.
