2 Chronicles 28:26

Now the rest of his acts and of all his ways, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.

The verse points beyond the account given to the remainder of the king's deeds and the whole course of his conduct from beginning to end as set down in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel. It stands within the reign of Ahaz, when Judah lay in a dark and sinful state. The history of the kings of Judah and Israel to which it belongs furnishes the setting for the spiritual lessons of Scripture and forms part of God's revelation in history reaching its fulfillment in Christ. That history is not presented to glorify human accomplishment but to bear witness to Christ. Yet even amid that darkness under Ahaz, gleams of hope for what was to come still shone through.
