2 Chronicles 28:27
And Ahaz slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city, even in Jerusalem: but they brought him not into the sepulchres of the kings of Israel: and Hezekiah his son reigned in his stead. And Ahaz slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city, even in Jerusalem: but they brought him not into the sepulchres of the kings of Israel: and Hezekiah his son reigned in his stead.
This verse records the death and end of the reign of Ahaz and the succession of his son Hezekiah in his place. He was buried in the city, even in Jerusalem, but he was not brought into the sepulchres of the kings of Israel. He had been an evil ruler whose departure from God brought strife, captivity, and great loss. Hezekiah who followed him was a good king.
The sinful and dark conditions during the reign of Ahaz described in this chapter are the setting in which Isaiah's prophecy of hope was spoken. This history belongs within the Bible's account of God's revelation which culminates in Christ. It testifies of Christ. It makes readers wise unto salvation.
