2 Chronicles 28:3
Moreover he burnt incense in the valley of the son of Hinnom, and burnt his children in the fire, after the abominations of the heathen whom the LORD had cast out before the children of Israel. Moreover he burnt incense in the valley of the son of Hinnom, and burnt his children in the fire, after the abominations of the heathen whom the LORD had cast out before the children of Israel.
This record belongs to the reign of Ahaz, when Judah turned aside to the idolatrous worship of heathen deities. Its setting was a wider apostasy in which even leaders and priests proved unfaithful to their trust, while some still kept up the outward forms of worship and claimed to belong to God. Ahaz walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, made molten images for Baalim, and burned incense in the valley of the son of Hinnom.
He burned his children in the fire, causing his son to pass through the fire, in imitation of the abominations of the heathen whom the Lord had cast out and driven out before the children of Israel. His course thus became a literal example and literal fulfillment of the charge that leaders cause God's people to err and destroy the way of their paths.
