2 Chronicles 28:7
And Zichri, a mighty man of Ephraim, slew Maaseiah the king’s son, and Azrikam the governor of the house, and Elkanah that was next to the king. And Zichri, a mighty man of Ephraim, slew Maaseiah the king’s son, and Azrikam the governor of the house, and Elkanah that was next to the king.
This verse is part of the history of Judah's defeat by the northern kingdom of Israel during the reign of Ahaz. In that battle the forces of Ephraim inflicted heavy loss of life on Judah, striking down many of the people including men of leading rank, and carrying away women and children as captives. That slaughter and the plan to enslave the captives stand as acts of cruel oppression against fellow countrymen. Judah had by its own wrongdoing forfeited divine protection and thus lay open to such a humiliating defeat.
