2 Chronicles 29:10

Now it is in mine heart to make a covenant with the LORD God of Israel, that his fierce wrath may turn away from us.

At the very start of his reign Hezekiah spoke to faithful priests and Levites, seeking their loyal support in restoring the long-neglected temple services and in carrying out immediate and far-reaching reforms. His declaration of purpose followed open acknowledgment that their fathers and the people had trespassed and done evil, had forsaken God, and had neglected the temple. From the heart he purposed to make a covenant with the LORD God of Israel, that His fierce wrath might turn away from Judah. That covenant was aimed at averting threatened judgments and saving Judah from the ruin and judgment already overtaking the northern kingdom of Israel. It called for decisive return to faithful worship rather than halfway measures.
