Hezekiah Opens the Doors of the Templeby emmanuel_higgins

2 Chronicles 29:16

And the priests went into the inner part of the house of the LORD, to cleanse it, and brought out all the uncleanness that they found in the temple of the LORD into the court of the house of the LORD. And the Levites took it, to carry it out abroad into the brook Kidron.

Hezekiah's call for reform was answered by immediate action on the part of the priests. Those who were present at his conference went out and enlisted the cooperation of others of their number who had not been there, urging them to join heartily in the work of cleansing and sanctifying the temple. That cleansing was a difficult undertaking because of the years of desecration and neglect that had left their mark upon the house.

The priests and the Levites labored untiringly, each in his distinct part of the task. The priests entered the inner part to cleanse it and brought out all the uncleanness they found into the court, and the Levites took it from there to carry it abroad to the brook Kidron. Despite the magnitude of the work, it was completed within a remarkably short time. When finished, the temple doors had been repaired and thrown open, the sacred vessels had been assembled and put into place, and all was made ready for the reestablishment of the sanctuary services.
