And said unto them, Hear me, ye Levites, sanctify now yourselves, and sanctify the house of the LORD God of your fathers, and carry forth the filthiness out of the holy place. The verse records Hezekiah's direct appeal to the priests to sanctify themselves and to sanctify the house of the Lord God of their fathers, an appeal also understood as addressed to the Levites. The appeal called them to unite with him in bringing about the necessary reforms. It directed them to cleanse the neglected temple by carrying what defiled it out of the holy place, preparing it for the restoration of worship.
