2 Chronicles 29:6
For our fathers have trespassed, and done that which was evil in the eyes of the LORD our God, and have forsaken him, and have turned away their faces from the habitation of the LORD, and turned their backs. For our fathers have trespassed, and done that which was evil in the eyes of the LORD our God, and have forsaken him, and have turned away their faces from the habitation of the LORD, and turned their backs.
Immediately after ascending the throne, Hezekiah freely spoke this confession to the priests and Levites who had remained true to their sacred calling. In it he admitted that the fathers had trespassed and done evil in the sight of God by forsaking Him and turning away their faces from His habitation and dwelling. That forsaking accounts for the long neglect of the temple services and its worship.
The nation's sin was both disobedience and apostasy. Hezekiah stated this to gain their loyal cooperation for restoring temple worship and carrying out immediate and far-reaching reforms. His aim was to make a covenant with the God of Israel so that His fierce wrath would turn away.
