Solomon's Temple With Its Pillars and AltarBible World

2 Chronicles 3:4

And the porch that was in the front of the house, the length of it was according to the breadth of the house, twenty cubits, and the height was an hundred and twenty: and he overlaid it within with pure gold.

The porch stood at the front of the house, twenty cubits in length according to the breadth of the house, one hundred and twenty cubits high, and overlaid within with pure gold. It belonged to Solomon's building of the temple, a larger, grander, magnificent and permanent successor to and enlargement of the tabernacle built on the same plan. The temple was built according to a divinely given pattern as the dwelling place of God.

Like the tabernacle, the temple had two holy places as its distinguishing feature. It had sacred vessels of the same kinds as the tabernacle, with the same ministration, but increased in size and number. The temple therefore serves as a pattern of the heavenly temple, showing that the heavenly sanctuary also has two holy places.

The building and services of Solomon's temple receive six chapters in 2 Chronicles to emphasize the religious purpose of his reign. The conspicuous and important parts of the temple were made from cedar, valued for its strength, fine grain, polish, and fragrance.
