2 Chronicles 32:17
He wrote also letters to rail on the LORD God of Israel, and to speak against him, saying, As the gods of the nations of other lands have not delivered their people out of mine hand, so shall not the God of Hezekiah deliver his people out of mine hand.
Sennacherib dispatched written messages directed against Jerusalem that ridiculed the Lord God of Israel. In them he asserted that since the deities of other lands had proven unable to rescue their peoples from his power, the God of Hezekiah would likewise fail to rescue His people from his hand. The communications were arrogant threats aimed at intimidating the city into surrender. At the same time they constituted a direct insult and defiance toward the living God.
