2 Chronicles 32:26
Notwithstanding Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of the LORD came not upon them in the days of Hezekiah. Notwithstanding Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of the LORD came not upon them in the days of Hezekiah.
The pride of heart was Hezekiah's display of his treasures to the ambassadors from Babylon. He was filled with remorse for that pride. He humbled himself together with the inhabitants of Jerusalem over that pride. Because of that humbling, the wrath of the Lord did not come upon them in the days and lifetime of Hezekiah.
That repentance only delayed judgment and did not undo its result, for the evil seed had been sown and would in time spring up into desolation and woe. During his remaining years Hezekiah had much prosperity because of his steadfast purpose to redeem the past and bring honor to God's name. Yet his faith was to be severely tried to teach him that only by trusting fully in Jehovah could he triumph over the powers of darkness plotting his ruin and the utter destruction of his people.
