2 Chronicles 32:7
Be strong and courageous, be not afraid nor dismayed for the king of Assyria, nor for all the multitude that is with him: for there be more with us than with him: Be strong and courageous, be not afraid nor dismayed for the king of Assyria, nor for all the multitude that is with him: for there be more with us than with him:
Hezekiah spoke these words when Assyrian armies were invading Judah and Jerusalem appeared doomed to utter destruction. In that crisis he called Judah to be strong and courageous in facing the threat to Jerusalem, not to be afraid or dismayed for the king of Assyria nor for all the multitude with him.
The ground for such courage is that there are more with Judah than with Assyria, for those who help and fight for Judah are greater than the forces against them. Assyria has with it only human strength, only an arm of flesh, while Judah has the Lord God present with it to help and to fight its battles. This confidence rests on God's purpose to deliver Jerusalem, so that although Assyria may be used for a time to punish, it will not prevail forever.
Such reliance on God comes after doing all that can be done to prepare for the attack. Those who thus trust in divine power to deliver are to resist their heathen oppressors with unfailing courage.
