Manasseh Prays in Chains in a Prison Cellby emmanuel_higgins

2 Chronicles 33:13

And prayed unto him: and he was intreated of him, and heard his supplication, and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the LORD he was God.

Manasseh stands as an example of one who heard God's word but did not heed it. Affliction and captivity humbled him and moved him to pray to God. When he was afflicted he humbled himself and pleaded with the Lord while a captive in bonds.

God was entreated by him, heard his supplication, and brought him back to Jerusalem into his kingdom and restored him to his throne. Through that experience of humbling, prayer, hearing, and restoration, Manasseh learned and knew that the Lord, He is God. His restoration shows that God answers repentance with mercy and does not abandon His people to their enemies even after serious apostasy.

When warnings and appeals are rejected, God may use punishment and affliction to turn His people back to Himself. Yet Manasseh's repentance came too late to undo the harm and corruption that years of idolatry had done to the kingdom. By that time many of the people had already fallen beyond recovery.
