Manasseh Prays in Chains in a Prison Cellby emmanuel_higgins

2 Chronicles 33:19

His prayer also, and how God was intreated of him, and all his sin, and his trespass, and the places wherein he built high places, and set up groves and graven images, before he was humbled: behold, they are written among the sayings of the seers.

Manasseh was born during the fifteen years added to Hezekiah's life in answer to his prayer for longer life, reigned fifty-five years, and became one of the wickedest kings Judah ever had. The verse lists his prayer, how God was entreated of him, all his sin and his trespass, and the places wherein he built high places and set up groves and graven images before he was humbled, and declares that they are written among the sayings of the seers. His wickedness brought great trouble upon the kingdom.

After he was taken prisoner by the Assyrians to Babylon he humbled himself in captivity, God heard him, and God restored him to his kingdom. After his restoration he learned to know God, was accepted by Him, and tried to undo his former evil deeds by seeking to reform the kingdom. His restoration makes him a marvelous instance of God's wonderful mercy, and it shows that God had power both to bring judgment through a foreign nation and to deliver when there is repentance. The prayer attributed to him is found in the Apocrypha.
