2 Chronicles 33:22
But he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, as did Manasseh his father: for Amon sacrificed unto all the carved images which Manasseh his father had made, and served them; But he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, as did Manasseh his father: for Amon sacrificed unto all the carved images which Manasseh his father had made, and served them;
Amon son of Manasseh was a foolish and wicked king of Judah in the rapid decline of the kingdom described at the end of 2 Chronicles. He did evil as his father Manasseh had done, continuing his evil ways by sacrificing to and serving all the carved images Manasseh had made.
Manasseh was born during the fifteen extra years granted to Hezekiah after Hezekiah prayed for an extension of life. He became one of the wickedest kings Judah ever had and reigned fifty-five years, one of the longest reigns, and his wickedness brought great trouble upon the kingdom. Yet Manasseh is a marvelous instance of God's wonderful mercy, for after he was taken prisoner by the Assyrians he humbled himself, learned to know God, and God restored him and accepted him.
Unlike his father, Amon did not humble himself before God, but did evil in serving carved images, and judgment came upon him. Set opposite God's readiness to meet humbled kings with mercy, his course proves God is as merciful as just, unwilling that any should perish and giving life to those who will come to Him. Amon was followed in turn by Josiah, one of the best and most devoted kings.
