Amon refused to humble himself before the Lord as his father Manasseh had humbled himself. Where Manasseh had turned back to God through humbling and repentance, Amon refused to turn back. Instead he continued in wrongdoing and grew increasingly unfaithful. He trespassed more and more, increasing rather than forsaking his wrong course. His reign lasted only two years and ended when his own servants killed him in the palace.
