2 Chronicles 34:13
Also they were over the bearers of burdens, and were overseers of all that wrought the work in any manner of service: and of the Levites there were scribes, and officers, and porters. Also they were over the bearers of burdens, and were overseers of all that wrought the work in any manner of service: and of the Levites there were scribes, and officers, and porters.
The verse records the organization of the temple repair effort, with overseers set over the bearers of burdens and over all who performed the work in every manner of service, while Levites served as scribes and officers and porters or gatekeepers. It belongs to the eighteenth year of Josiah's reign, when reformation turned aside threatened judgments for a season. The way for that reformation had been prepared by the silent yet powerful influence of the messages of the prophets concerning the Babylonian captivity. The reformation itself was brought about in a wholly unexpected manner, through the discovery and study of a portion of Holy Scripture that for many years had been strangely misplaced and lost.
