2 Chronicles 34:24

Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, and upon the inhabitants thereof, even all the curses that are written in the book which they have read before the king of Judah:

The curses are those written in the book of the law, standing as God's declared warning that departure from His statutes brings judgment upon the place and its inhabitants. When that book was read before the king of Judah, its words laid open the sin of the people and the wrath that must come upon them because of that departure. That exposure was itself a call to repentance and reform, urging a turning from transgression in light of the threatened evil. The same principle still holds, so that wherever God's law reveals transgression, those who do not repent as its light reaches them will face God's wrath.
