Josiah Hears the Book of the Law ReadBible World

2 Chronicles 34:30

And the king went up into the house of the LORD, and all the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the priests, and the Levites, and all the people, great and small: and he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant that was found in the house of the LORD.

After the book of the covenant was found in the house of the Lord, Josiah sent and gathered all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem and went up into the house of the Lord with all the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the priests and the Levites, and all the people great and small, and read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant. That gathering of the whole people from great to small to hear the covenant read aloud was his good work of reform. The public reading laid open how the people had transgressed God's law.

The reading was followed by the king standing in his place and making a covenant before the Lord to walk after the Lord and to keep His commandments and His testimonies and His statutes with all his heart and with all his soul. He caused all who were present in Jerusalem and Benjamin to stand to it, and the congregation joined with him in repentance and in a wholehearted pledge to obey the Lord. He then took away all the abominations and made Israel serve the Lord their God, so that all his days they did not depart from following the Lord.

A message from God like that reading of the law is meant to bring deep repentance and a return to the Lord. When His commandments are brought to light, people are accountable to repent and reform rather than continue in disobedience.
