2 Chronicles 35:25
And Jeremiah lamented for Josiah: and all the singing men and the singing women spake of Josiah in their lamentations to this day, and made them an ordinance in Israel: and, behold, they are written in the lamentations. And Jeremiah lamented for Josiah: and all the singing men and the singing women spake of Josiah in their lamentations to this day, and made them an ordinance in Israel: and, behold, they are written in the lamentations.
Josiah died at thirty-nine in battle with Egypt, after reigning more than a decade following his great Passover, and was buried in one of the sepulchers of his fathers. All Judah and Jerusalem mourned for Josiah at his death. Jeremiah lamented for Josiah. The singing men and the singing women continued to speak of Josiah in their lamentations.
Those lamentations were made an ordinance in Israel and were written down, preserved in the Lamentations. His zeal was acceptable to God, yet it could not atone for the sins of past generations. The piety displayed by the king's followers could not change the heart of those who stubbornly refused to turn from idolatry to the worship of the true God.
