2 Chronicles 36:12
And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD his God, and humbled not himself before Jeremiah the prophet speaking from the mouth of the LORD. And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD his God, and humbled not himself before Jeremiah the prophet speaking from the mouth of the LORD.
The charge against Zedekiah was that he did evil in refusing to humble himself before the word of the Lord given through Jeremiah. That evil included losing sight of his high privilege to bring honor to the name of the living God. When the preaching of the false prophets brought him under suspicion of treason, he journeyed to Babylon with Seraiah and there renewed his oath of allegiance to Nebuchadnezzar. That renewed oath was sworn in the name of the Lord God of Israel, as Nebuchadnezzar himself required.
Nebuchadnezzar insisted on that sacred name because through Daniel and the other Hebrew captives he had been made acquainted with the power and supreme authority of the true God. If Zedekiah had respected that renewed covenant oath in obedience to Jeremiah's counsel, his loyalty would have exerted a profound influence for good. Many eyes were watching the conduct of those who claimed to reverence God's name and cherish His honor, and faithfulness would have witnessed to them.
