2 Chronicles 4:12

To wit, the two pillars, and the pommels, and the chapiters which were on the top of the two pillars, and the two wreaths to cover the two pommels of the chapiters which were on the top of the pillars;

The verse belongs to the account of building God's temple in Solomon's reign, after David's purpose to build a house of God was refused, after David gathered material for the building, and after Solomon was called to the kingdom and his reign was established. The chapter describes the temple's furnishings and ornamentation as part of its grand scale, and this verse names the two pillars with their pommels and chapiters on the top of the two pillars and the two wreaths to cover the two pommels. The temple was a permanent, enlarged version of Moses' tabernacle, built on the same general plan according to a divinely given pattern, with its sanctuary vessels greater in size and number.

Like the tabernacle, the temple had two holy places with similar sacred vessels and was built on the same plan. Its arrangement served as a pattern of the heavenly temple, which likewise has two holy places.

The pillars and their decorations were the work of Hiram Abiff. He completed the work for which Solomon employed him to do. The chapter gives no account of his death or burial.
