The bronze basin known as the sea was cast with walls a handbreadth in thickness. Its rim was fashioned after the flared brim of a drinking cup and was adorned with sculpted lily blossoms. The vessel was of immense size, made to receive and hold three thousand baths of water. It was set in the court reserved for the priests. There it served the priests as the place for their ceremonial washing.
