2 Chronicles 4:6
He made also ten lavers, and put five on the right hand, and five on the left, to wash in them: such things as they offered for the burnt offering they washed in them; but the sea was for the priests to wash in. He made also ten lavers, and put five on the right hand, and five on the left, to wash in them: such things as they offered for the burnt offering they washed in them; but the sea was for the priests to wash in.
2 Chronicles 4:6 belongs to the account of the construction and furnishings of Solomon's temple. It records ten lavers, with five placed on the right hand and five on the left. The lavers were for washing what was offered for the burnt offering, while the sea was for the priests to wash in, providing purification for the offerings and for the priests.
The temple followed the same general plan as the Mosaic tabernacle but on a larger and grander scale as a permanent building, with its sanctuary vessels increased in size and number. Its sacred vessels were of the same kind as those of the tabernacle and served the same ministry. Together with its two holy places, this likeness shows the temple was a pattern of the heavenly temple. The surrounding chapter shows that Hiram Abiff finished the temple work Solomon employed him to do, so he lived at least until the work was complete, without stating where or when he later died.
