2 Chronicles 5:4

And all the elders of Israel came; and the Levites took up the ark.

The elders of Israel came together as the Levites took up the ark, and that act belonged to the removal of the wilderness tabernacle with all its holy furniture to the newly completed temple. Among the sacred objects thus carried was the ark of the testament, borne from its former tent-sanctuary to its place in the permanent house of worship. By this transfer the temple was formally dedicated to Jehovah and His worship as a dwelling place prepared not for man but for the Lord God.

The removal took place in the seventh month at the time of the feast of tabernacles. A great congregation from every part of the kingdom gathered at Jerusalem for the occasion and shared in bringing the sacred furniture into the temple.
