2 Chronicles 6:11

And in it have I put the ark, wherein is the covenant of the LORD, that he made with the children of Israel.

The verse belongs to Solomon's address at the dedication of the temple after it was erected, spoken in the presence and hearing of the immense congregation of Israel with all the congregation standing before him. For these words he stood on a brazen scaffold or platform set in the midst of the court facing the altar, with hands lifted up to heaven while blessing the congregation. The scaffold measured five cubits long and five cubits broad and three cubits high. The verse is also described as standing in his vocal prayer, offered kneeling upon the brazen scaffold, with his words preserved in the Bible.

The verse declares that God fulfilled with His hands what He spoke with His mouth to David his father. Since bringing Israel out of Egypt, God had chosen no city in which to build a house for His name, but He chose Jerusalem for His name to be there. God chose David to be over Israel. Before choosing David, God had chosen no man to rule Israel.

It was in David's heart to build a house for the name of the Lord God of Israel, and God approved that desire as good, yet David himself was not to build it but his son coming from his loins was to build it for His name. The Lord performed His word by raising Solomon up in David's place to sit on the throne of Israel as promised, Solomon built the house for the name of the Lord God of Israel, and he placed in it the ark wherein is the covenant the Lord made with the children of Israel, the fathers, when He brought them out of Egypt.

After this blessing Solomon kneeled on his knees before all the congregation and spread forth his hands toward heaven, and the lengthy prayer he then offered was appropriate for the occasion and inspired by God, breathing the loftiest piety blended with the deepest humility. After the prayer ended, the Lord sent fire from heaven and consumed the burnt offering.
