2 Chronicles 6:15
Thou which hast kept with thy servant David my father that which thou hast promised him; and spakest with thy mouth, and hast fulfilled it with thine hand, as it is this day. Thou which hast kept with thy servant David my father that which thou hast promised him; and spakest with thy mouth, and hast fulfilled it with thine hand, as it is this day.
This verse belongs to Solomon's public prayer spoken aloud at the dedication after the temple was built, offered while he knelt on a bronze scaffold in the sight and hearing of all Israel, and its wording is preserved in Scripture. He prayed earnestly and solemnly, humbly and with deep reverence, lifting his hands toward heaven while the congregation bowed with their faces to the ground.
The verse declares that no god compares to the Lord God of Israel in heaven or on earth, because He keeps covenant and shows mercy to those who serve Him wholeheartedly and walk before Him with all their hearts. It affirms that God kept what He promised to David His servant, announcing it with His mouth and then bringing it to pass by His own hand, as demonstrated on that day by the finished temple and Solomon's reign. This fulfilled promise is presented as proof that God is faithful to His word, covenant, and mercy.
After the prayer ended, God sent fire from heaven to consume the burnt offering and later appeared to Solomon by night to assure him that the prayer had been heard and answered. The prayer shows God is not limited to a building; by His Spirit He meets with people when they gather for worship, visits them in their homes and wherever they are with special displays of His goodness, so His children may worship Him in every place.
