2 Chronicles 6:22
If a man sin against his neighbour, and an oath be laid upon him to make him swear, and the oath come before thine altar in this house; If a man sin against his neighbour, and an oath be laid upon him to make him swear, and the oath come before thine altar in this house;
The verse belongs to Solomon's prayer offered after the temple was erected at its dedication. The prayer was spoken aloud while kneeling on a brazen scaffold in the presence and hearing of the people of Israel, and its words are preserved in the Bible. God answered the prayer by sending fire from heaven to consume the burnt offering and by appearing to Solomon by night to say He had heard it.
The verse records Solomon's request that when a person sins against a neighbor and an oath comes before the altar, God hear and judge the matter by punishing the wicked according to his deeds and justifying the righteous according to his righteousness. Although the temple was dedicated for worship, God is not confined to it, but meets His people by His Spirit wherever they assemble, visits them in their homes, and may be worshiped in every place.
