2 Chronicles 6:27

Then hear thou from heaven, and forgive the sin of thy servants, and of thy people Israel, when thou hast taught them the good way, wherein they should walk; and send rain upon thy land, which thou hast given unto thy people for an inheritance.

This petition belongs to Solomon's prayer after the temple was erected and built and at its dedication. He prayed the words aloud and vocally while kneeling on a brazen scaffold in the presence and hearing of Israel. Those words are preserved and given in the Bible. The prayer is marked by deep humility and piety.

It provides for the time when drought comes upon Israel because of sin. Then the people are to pray toward the temple, confess sin and confess God's name, and turn from their sin. When they do, God hears from heaven, forgives their sin, teaches them the good way wherein they should walk and the right way to live, and sends rain upon the land given to them as an inheritance. God answered the prayer as it ended by sending fire from heaven that consumed the burnt offering. He also appeared to Solomon by night to say He had heard his prayer.

The example shows that vocal public prayer is right. God's hearing and care are not confined to the temple. By His Spirit He meets His people when they gather for worship and visits them in their homes and wherever they may be.
