2 Chronicles 6:29
Then what prayer or what supplication soever shall be made of any man, or of all thy people Israel, when every one shall know his own sore and his own grief, and shall spread forth his hands in this house: Then what prayer or what supplication soever shall be made of any man, or of all thy people Israel, when every one shall know his own sore and his own grief, and shall spread forth his hands in this house:
The verse belongs to Solomon's prayer at the dedication of the temple, offered aloud while kneeling on a brazen platform before Israel so the people could hear him. When hardship or sickness comes, each person may recognize his own sore, distress, suffering and grief and spread forth his hands and pray toward God's house at the temple. God, who knows each heart, is asked to hear from heaven, forgive, and render to each person according to his ways. This hearing and forgiving is so that people will fear God and walk in his ways.
The recorded prayer shows public prayer as a practice of worship. The prayer teaches that God is not confined to a temple, but meets His people by His Spirit when they gather for worship, visits and encourages them in their homes and wherever they are, and gives His children the privilege of worshiping Him in every place.
