2 Chronicles 6:36

If they sin against thee, (for there is no man which sinneth not,) and thou be angry with them, and deliver them over before their enemies, and they carry them away captives unto a land far off or near;

The verse belongs to Solomon's prayer at the dedication of the temple after it was erected. He offered it as a vocal prayer kneeling on a brazen scaffold in the presence and hearing of Israel, and its words are preserved in the Bible. After the prayer God sent fire from heaven that consumed the burnt offering and appeared to Solomon by night saying He had heard his prayer.

The verse teaches that there is no one who does not sin, and that Israel's sin can stir God's anger so He gives the people into enemy hands and lets them be carried away captive to a land far off or near. Even in that distant captivity they can turn back to God wholeheartedly, confess their wrongdoing, and pray toward their land, Jerusalem, and the temple, and God will hear from heaven, forgive them, and uphold their cause.

The prayer shows God is not confined to a temple building, but meets His people by His Spirit when they gather for worship, visits them in their homes and wherever they are, and may be worshiped by His children in every place.
