2 Chronicles 6:41

Now therefore arise, O LORD God, into thy resting place, thou, and the ark of thy strength: let thy priests, O LORD God, be clothed with salvation, and let thy saints rejoice in goodness.

This verse is Solomon's closing petition in his prayer at the dedication of the temple. In it he asks God to enter the temple as His resting place, He and the ark of His strength, to clothe the priests with salvation, and to cause His people to rejoice in His goodness. He prayed it vocally and aloud while kneeling on a brazen scaffold in the presence and hearing of the people of Israel.

The preservation of the words of the prayer in the Bible provides evidence for vocal, public prayer. After the prayer ended, God answered by sending fire from heaven that consumed the burnt offering. He then appeared to Solomon by night to say that He had heard his prayer.

The prayer expresses lofty piety and deep humility. It shows that God is not confined to a temple building, for He meets His people by His Spirit when they gather for worship. He visits and encourages them wherever they are, so His children may worship Him in every place.
