2 Chronicles 6:5
Since the day that I brought forth my people out of the land of Egypt I chose no city among all the tribes of Israel to build an house in, that my name might be there; neither chose I any man to be a ruler over my people Israel: Since the day that I brought forth my people out of the land of Egypt I chose no city among all the tribes of Israel to build an house in, that my name might be there; neither chose I any man to be a ruler over my people Israel:
After the temple was erected, the verse belongs to Solomon's vocal prayer at its dedication, offered kneeling upon a brazen scaffold in the presence and hearing of Israel, with its words recorded in the Bible. Its recorded words are given as evidence for public prayer. The verse is also spoken as Solomon's blessing of Israel at the dedication, delivered standing on the brazen scaffold in the court facing the altar with hands lifted to heaven while the congregation stood.
The scaffold stood in the midst of the court and measured five cubits long, five cubits broad, and three cubits high. The verse declares that since the day God brought His people out of Egypt He chose no city among the tribes to build a house for His name to be there and chose no man to rule Israel, before choosing Jerusalem for His name and David to be over Israel. Solomon spoke this to bless the Lord God of Israel for fulfilling with His hands what He spoke with His mouth to David his father.
David had it in his heart to build a house for the name of the Lord, which God commended, yet reserved the building for the son coming forth out of David's loins. The Lord performed His word by Solomon rising up in David's place on the throne of Israel and building the house and setting there a place for the ark. The ark contains the covenant of the Lord made with the fathers when He brought them out of Egypt. After the prayer God answered by sending fire from heaven to consume the burnt offering and by appearing to Solomon by night to say He had heard his prayer.
