2 Chronicles 6:8

But the LORD said to David my father, Forasmuch as it was in thine heart to build an house for my name, thou didst well in that it was in thine heart:

2 Chronicles 6:8 belongs to the account of Solomon's prayer after the temple was built and erected. In that account Solomon prayed aloud while kneeling before the people of Israel. At the dedication he stood facing the altar on a brazen scaffold or platform in the court and blessed the standing congregation of Israel.

He declared that the Lord had fulfilled with His hands what He spoke with His mouth to David. Since bringing Israel out of Egypt He had chosen Jerusalem for His name and David to be over Israel. The verse shows that God commended David for having it in his heart to build a house for His name. David himself did not and would not carry out the building.

David's son coming forth out of his loins would build the house for God's name. The word was performed when Solomon rose up in the place of David his father and was set on the throne of Israel as promised, built the house, and put in it the ark wherein is the covenant of the Lord made with the children of Israel. After this blessing Solomon knelt on his knees before all Israel and spread forth his hands toward heaven in a lengthy prayer inspired of God, breathing the loftiest piety blended with the deepest humility.
