Scenes From Second Chronicles Blended Togetherby KalebRosendahl

2 Chronicles 7:3

And when all the children of Israel saw how the fire came down, and the glory of the LORD upon the house, they bowed themselves with their faces to the ground upon the pavement, and worshipped, and praised the LORD, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever.

The verse records the dedication of the house of God built by Solomon, taking place after he knelt before the immense congregation and finished his dedicatory prayer. All Israel gathered for the occasion, with many people from other lands assembled in great splendor to witness it. In that prayer he taught that God is not confined to a temple like the heathen gods but meets His people by His Spirit when they assemble in the house dedicated to His worship, and he asked God to hear prayer made toward that place. In answer fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of the Lord filled the house so that the priests could not enter.

When all the children of Israel saw the fire coming down and the glory upon the house, they bowed themselves with their faces to the ground upon the pavement and worshiped and praised the Lord, saying He is good and His mercy endures forever. The miraculous fire and the visible glory were a divine token of acceptance of the temple. The shekinah glorified the temple when it was dedicated to God's service, yet afterward the house remained to all outward appearance the same except for additional embellishment glittering with gold and precious stones in grandeur and beauty, while God was no longer to be found there though worshipers from every nation still sought it.
