2 Chronicles 9:13

Now the weight of gold that came to Solomon in one year was six hundred and threescore and six talents of gold;

The verse lies in the account of Solomon's reign in the undivided kingdom, which occupies 2 Chronicles 1-9 and follows chronological order. It belongs to the closing portion of the history that begins with David's reign, covering the close of David's reign and the establishment of Solomon's reign. Within that story it comes after the building of the temple of God, its solemn dedication, his plans for the service of the house of God, and his enterprise in commerce.

Chronicles gives greater attention to the building and services of the temple than to details of Solomon's reign and other matters such as this verse. The verse records Solomon's enterprise in commerce and gives one detail of his wonderful wisdom and riches. It measures his great wealth by reporting that 666 talents of gold came to him in one year. That abundance was part of the riches and courtly luxury that later led him astray.
