And king Solomon passed all the kings of the earth in riches and wisdom.
Solomon sat on the throne of the Lord as king in place of David, and he prospered, with all Israel obeying him. The Lord magnified him exceedingly in the sight of all Israel and bestowed upon him a royal majesty greater than any king before him in Israel. In this way he passed all the kings of the earth in riches and wisdom and glory.
This preeminence was not by his own doing but because God gave him the talents of influence and the great wisdom that He put in his heart, for tact and ability do not come from the natural man. As a result all the kings of the earth sought his presence to hear the wisdom that God had put in his heart. Therefore all who depend on ministers or on others whom they regard as above themselves must understand that God is the One who endows a person with talent.
