2 Chronicles 9:6
Howbeit I believed not their words, until I came, and mine eyes had seen it: and, behold, the one half of the greatness of thy wisdom was not told me: for thou exceedest the fame that I heard. Howbeit I believed not their words, until I came, and mine eyes had seen it: and, behold, the one half of the greatness of thy wisdom was not told me: for thou exceedest the fame that I heard.
The confession records the queen of Sheba's visit to Jerusalem to test Solomon with hard questions and to see for herself his renowned works, including his wisdom and the magnificent temple he had built. Before coming she had heard in her own land a report of his acts and his wisdom, and that report was true. Yet she did not believe what she had heard until she came and her own eyes had seen it.
When she shared all that was in her heart and spoke with him about the mysteries of nature, he answered all her questions with nothing hidden from her. He taught her about the God of nature, the great Creator who dwells in the highest heaven and rules over all. After seeing all his wisdom and the house he had built, she was overwhelmed and had no more spirit in her.
She then acknowledged that only half of the greatness of his wisdom and prosperity had been told to her, for what she saw exceeded the fame she had heard. She declared happy his men and happy his servants who stand continually before him and hear his wisdom. By the close of her visit she had been so fully taught the source of his wisdom and prosperity that she was led not to exalt the human agent but to bless the Lord his God.
Hearing reports cannot convey full reality, in the same way that the reality of the life and character of Jesus surpasses what can be described.
