2 Corinthians 10:8

For though I should boast somewhat more of our authority, which the Lord hath given us for edification, and not for your destruction, I should not be ashamed:

The Lord gave Paul authority for the work of building up the church, not for destroying it. Of that God-given authority he could speak confidently and boast somewhat more without shame. That authority carried special honor and weight because God had called him to a particular work, had given him visions and credentials, and had entrusted him with great responsibilities. He could speak in this confident way even though he humbled himself by doing manual work.
