Paul and Titus Embrace on a Road in Macedoniaby emmanuel_higgins

2 Corinthians 7:5

For, when we were come into Macedonia, our flesh had no rest, but we were troubled on every side; without were fightings, within were fears.

When Paul came into Macedonia his flesh had no rest, for he was troubled on every side, with fightings without in outward conflict and danger surrounding him and fears within in inward fear and anxiety weighing upon him. His inward fear was anxiety about the Corinthian church, because he did not know how they had received his corrective letter of reproof. Bodily infirmity added to his weariness under that strain. The burden of caring for the churches pressed upon him, and the efforts of false teachers to turn believers against him added to his distress.

He was comforted by the arrival of Titus with news about the Corinthians, which relieved his anxiety. The news was that the Corinthians had repented and changed in response to his correction. Amid persecution and discouragement he found consolation in Christ.
